WHAT IS THE NCIAIA?
The North Carolina Internal Affairs Investigators Association (NCIAIA) is composed of law enforcement officers and police administrators throughout North Carolina, charged with the duty of maintaining professional standards within their departments. Some of the largest agencies in the state are represented as well as departments consisting of just a few officers.
-
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the North Carolina Internal Affairs Investigators Association is to promote law enforcement professionalism throughout the state of North Carolina, while providing leadership, knowledge, and training to law enforcement agencies striving for a culture of true professionalism.
-
WHAT ARE ITS GOALS?
The NCIAIA is dedicated to establishing, maintaining, and developing professional standards of performance and integrity for internal affairs investigators. Training is an essential element of the association, and one of its greatest assets. The NCIAIA regularly provides training which enhances professional growth and development; presents a forum for discussion of common problems encountered by internal affairs investigators throughout the state; and disseminates information relative to current court decisions, improved technical practices, and progressive administrative procedures.
-
WHAT OTHER BENEFITS DOES THE NCIAIA OFFER?
One great benefit is the spirit of cooperation, and comradeship which is fostered through the association. Men and women with mutual interests and similar challenges have the opportunity to exchange ideas and share expertise in matters which are fairly unique in the law enforcement community. Valuable resources are often made available through acquaintances formed within the association, and as often as not, lasting friendships develop.
-
WHO CAN JOIN THE NCIAIA?
Municipal, county, and state law enforcement officers, and other governmental officials charged with the responsibility of conducting or reviewing internal investigations are eligible to apply for active membership.
Full-time police attorneys, certain training and administrative personnel, and some retired police personnel are eligible to apply for membership as associate, non-voting members
-
WHAT IS THE COST OF MEMBERSHIP?
Presently, annual membership dues are $50.00 per department. There is a fee per member to attend training sessions and seminars. This fee is higher for non-members.
